3rd Quarterly Board Meeting

The 3rd Quarterly Board Meeting will be held at the Plaza Resort and Spa Daytona Beach located 600 N. Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32118. The Board Meeting will begin on Friday, May 18th, 2012 at 1:00 pm and end on Saturday, May 19th, 2012 at noon. Room rates are $99.00 per night. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-874-7420 and request reservations under the”FCCD Board Meeting” block.

The deadline for reservations is April 30, 2012 at 3:00 pm.

PSA: Chapter 14 And Center for Abuse & Rape Emergencies

We are in the process now of fund raising for the C.A.R.E. Victim Services Center, as it has been brought to our attention that their funding has been cut, like so many others. On November 19^th, C.A.R.E. was advised that their sexual assault services funding was terminated and that an initial 15% funding cut was implemented on their prevention education services. We believe strongly in their dedication to education and prevention of domestic violence, as well as their assistance to the victims. In closing, we are seeking any assistance which could allow us to further contribute to the fundraising. I have been in contact with Ms. Kay Tvaroch, Executive Director of C.A.R.E. in regards to our wishes to contribute to their cause. Ms. Tvaroch emphatically proclaims,

“Wow! Word travels fast – which in this case is a good thing I guess. Yes on November 19’th the Florida Department of Health notified us of termination our funding for Sexual Assault Services and for the time being cut us 15% on prevention education services. This was a statewide cut resulting from non-renewed block grant federal funding to Florida Department of Health. Although we are a local non profit, we are/were heavily dependent on govt. grants. This is not exactly a big wealthy community! Thanks so much for the offer to help. We will certainly pledge to utilize any support you can generate for the educational, prevention, and support efforts here in Charlotte County. Please let me know what I can do to assist. We are very appreciative. Thank you!”

FCCD had amazing success with last year’s domestic violence campaign, and as Chapter Secretary, I feel we should continue this effort as we continue to focus on community improvement. Chapter 14 Receives USMC-R Commander’s Award

During the months of October and November, Chapter 14 collected new, unwrapped toys in a Toys for Tots collection drive at Charlotte CI. Chapter 14 was able to collect approximately $200.00 worth of items for the drive. On November 25th, the items were turned over to United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program Coordinator for Charlotte County, Richard Frattarelli, at the Toys for Tots warehouse in Punta Gorda. At this time, Mr. Frattarelli presented Chapter 14 with the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Commander’s Award.

Chapter 14 thanks Richard and the many other selfless donors and volunteers of Toys for Tots around the globe for their contributions to lighting up the holiday season for the children.
